EIN Seminar - “Eighty years after the crash of 1929: what lessons for today?” - Brussels

Under the Chairmanship of Jaime Major Oreja, Vice Chairman of the EPP-ED Group, responsible for Political Strategy and the European Ideas Network, this special joint seminar with FAES placed the current financial crisis in a wider historical context.

Professor Jean-Christophe Defraigne, Institute of European Studies, FUSL -UCL, reflected on the lessons to be drawn from the way the 1929 re-ordered the world economic order. Professor Pedro Schwarz, Faculty of Economics, Universidad San Pablo CEU, Madrid, looked its long-term legacy of the crash. Alain-Gerard Slama, Philosopher and Historian, Sciences Po, Paris, analysed its political and ideological impact.
